FirmLogic Takes the Fear out of Technology
CLIENT: Anthony Sammons, Esq.
FIRM: Woodward, Hobson & Fulton, L.L.P. - Lexington, KY
PROBLEM: Finding way to simplify discovery process on over 400,000 pages of documents
SOLUTION: FirmLogic's Complete Document Services Solution

Anthony Sammons is admittedly not a techie. "I am still getting used to the computer age," Sammons admits with a chuckle. "But I don't have to be a computer whiz when I work with FirmLogic," he quickly adds.

Sammons was one of the central attorneys in a large commercial litigation case between two large chemical companies. The two parties entered into a joint venture that was promised to mean a cheaper process for one of the parties' manufacturing process. When the process didn't work, a $300 million lawsuit was filed. "Because we were talking about proprietary technology, there were a lot of technical issues involved that applied to a specific manufacturing plant," Sammons says.

Sammons then turned to FirmLogic's document management staff, services and technology. "Really they provide both the technology and the people behind it that you need," Sammons says. "If we do ever hit a snag, there are people at FirmLogic to come up with a quick solution to the problem at hand."

He is especially happy with how easy FirmLogic made it for the attorneys to work with case documents. "I never had to use Summation for a case that had this many documents," he says. "There is no question that FirmLogic came in and filled the role I needed - a way to easily manage the paper - categorize it, code it, use OCR and term searching."

In addition, for technology fearing attorneys, Sammons says FirmLogic couldn't be better. "They have the computer experts there to train you on how to use their system - and they are highly professional and I've enjoyed working with them throughout this process."

The technology helps Sammons get the efficient and accurate document scanning and coding he needs, and he says the FirmLogic staff is the added benefit. "They talk my language, and cater to my needs. I couldn't have asked for this process to have gone any smoother."

FirmLogic, A Combination of Science and Art
CLIENT: Rick G. Stuhan, Esq.
FIRM: Jones Day - Cleveland, OH
PROBLEM: Finding one stop shopping for trial consulting and records collection and analysis services
SOLUTION: FirmLogic's Litigation Support and Trial Consulting Services

Rick Stuhan knows he can count on FirmLogic regardless of his particular need. Stuhan's history with the people of FirmLogic predates the company itself. He admits that he isn't about to go shopping for a new service provider when it comes to his needs for litigation support. "FirmLogic offers the full range of litigation support services that I need; that is, indeed, one of its outstanding characteristics," Stuhan says. "And not only is it one-stop shopping, but I can count on FirmLogic to do a quality job no matter what the task."

In Stuhan's litigation work, he represents large corporations that need an expansive, consultative, and investigative approach to medical issues. "Medical records collection and analysis is a combination of art and science, and not just anyone can do it. You could do it yourself, but not as well." Stuhan knows that FirmLogic's approach is as thorough as they come. "They leave no stone unturned."

FirmLogic's staff can analyze the records and look for patterns to help strengthen Stuhan's case. "FirmLogic has an excellent staff that can determine why different medical procedures were done. They can help build a case by, for example finding an association between a certain exposure and the risk of getting a particular disease."

But Stuhan's needs don't end with records collection and analysis. Stuhan has used the trial consulting services of FirmLogic for both jury research and jury selection. He has been completely pleased with the results, and he has referred the FirmLogic team to his peers when they were seeking similar help. "The staff at FirmLogic immerses themselves in the facts of the case to give their advice more focus," Stuhan adds. "FirmLogic is particularly adept at designing and analyzing the results of written juror questionnaires."

Stuhan has worked with FirmLogic's trial consulting team on a number of cases where they would help lawyers pick juries. "We shared a lot of success. It has obviously worked out very well," he says. From questionnaires to voir dire work, Stuhan is happily a fan of the FirmLogic solution.

Document Review Made Efficient by FirmLogic
CLIENT: Scott Scurfield, Esq.
FIRM: Yates, McLamb & Weyher, L.L.P - Raleigh, NC
PROBLEM: Review, mark, and produce 90,000 pages of documents in two weeks
SOLUTION: FirmLogic's Document Services Solution

I first got acquainted with FirmLogic in 2004 during our involvement in litigation growing out of an industrial plant explosion. One of the other defense firms recommended that we use FirmLogic to scan and code a substantial volume (nearly 90,000 pages) of documents we had to produce in a very limited period of time. Not only did we have to review the documents, but we also had to mark some but not all of them "privileged and confidential."

"Our timeframe was tight to review all of the documents," states Scurfield. "We had to find a way to review them in weeks and we knew the traditional manual page-by-page, paper review was not the right answer."

We contacted FirmLogic and they were ready to help right away. We had them scan, Bates label, and code the documents. Next, we had the imaged documents and coded data loaded onto iPRO image-viewing software so we could review the database online. It was accessible by multiple attorneys simultaneously which made things go much more quickly and simply than I thought possible. Once the documents were reviewed and marked, we served them via CD's (produced by FirmLogic) containing the images rather than dozens of boxes of paper documents.

FirmLogic was extremely responsive to our needs. They came highly recommended, and now I can see why. We have used them for a number of projects since that time. If I have a box of documents that needs to be imaged, they personally come to the firm, pick up the box and have it returned to me the next day. Now that's great service!

"FirmLogic has always been able to produce images of documents no matter what condition the documents have been in, large, small, onion skin, you name it," said Scurfield. "They're reliable and responsive and you really can't ask for more than that!"
